Don't mean to get your thread off topic but I have a question about my Range Officer.

Bought it a few weeks ago and put 200 rounds through it the other day. 2 of the rounds got jammed without even firing. I know most of the time you have to experiment with different ammo and what not but I was still a little disappointed. Is this normal or do I need to get it looked at?

Ball ammo? What type of "jam" are you having? Is the round not feeding etc...

I believe this is what I bought. I'm not exactly sure what ball ammo means, although it's what I shoot when I go with my buddies.

Two time the slide wouldn't lock back after I fired. The last time it did it the round in the chamber didn't fire, the slide didn't go all the way forward after the shot, and the round was left sitting in the chamber.

Check your mags. I have some cheaper mags with metal followers that do that to one of my 1911s. Wilson mags is all I use now

And for just north of $1200, IMO this is the best 1911 you can get:

Well guess I'll scratch the 1911 carry gun. Bought a Blackwood p938 today. Thanks for all the replies.

Wow, that was fast! Just for the record, my suggestion was going to be an aluminum framed Commander sized 1911. Reliable and reasonably light. OTOH, your 3 finalists (238, 938 and 1911) are very different guns.

I'll look into new mags. I wanted to get a couple hundred rounds through it without changing anything so I could learn the ins and outs and get a feel for the gun. I also read a lot about Wilson mags having malfunctions with Range Officers but I'll definitely looks into it.

I'm quite a fan of the S&W E series.

Got rid of a P938 yesterday for the Defender. Wilson mags, Brown tactical safety, & replacement sights were ordered today. Next on the list is new VZ grips and a Harrison Design trigger.
