Yeah, once they leave the nest, they're as big as they'll ever be.

From the looks of it the hawk sits in the top of the trees and you walk around and get critters moving around for the bird?

Yep, that's what we do.

Also, please let me know when you are going again. I would love to witness this in person and show my son as well.

OK. I go all the time, but weekends would be better. You have any land? I'm running out of squirrels and the rabbits are scarce in my spots this year.

I thought about this thread yesterday morning when all the squirrels around my feeder went ape shite and a red-tailed hawk landed in the tree above my feeder

was hoping to see him bust one's arse

been seeing quite a few lately on road kill rabbits. Saw an eagle on a roadkill rabbit this morning too. They are having much better lucking finding rabbits than I am

I should be able to hook you up with a spot after duck and deer season.

You need to bring one of those birds to our family property in Danville.

More pitchers!

I'd blur out my face, but it's too pretty, as you can see.

It's always good when my daughter goes with me and we have a good hunt.

It's impressive how that adorable young lady was spared your looks.

A few more photos of Ava and dead things.

That last one is probably my favorite photo I've ever gotten of her with just an iphone. One of these days I'll take my real camera out hunting.

Great bid, great pics. Is it easy to tell what sex they are?

Has she ever taken anything larger than a rabbit? (opossum, coon, fox, etc)

It's easy if the bird is either very small or very large. The females are about 1/3 larger than the males, on average. But, there's a lot of overlap in the middle. So, there's a lot of guesswork involved, especially if the hawk is right in the middle of the weight range. Ava is definitely on the larger side though, so I can be pretty certain she's a she.
