The art of jig fishing for bass is something that I do not participate in, but I would like to begin.

What are your go to colors for jigs? I understand that black/blue is hard to beat anywhere.

Typical sizes, trailers, when to use, etc....

I find the thought of flipping a jig at 1000 cypress trees so mind numbing and painful, but at certain times of the year it seems to produce large weight.

Now that the bass have spawned out and will naturall move a little deeper, is it time to bring the jigs out?

meh, stick to your favorite bug/creature/tube. Jigs are the most overrated bass bait ever created.

I have only caught bass on crankbaits the past two months. Everything else seems to take too long or I'm not good at those techniques. Spinners - 0, jigs - 0, frogs - 0, live bait - 0. Cranks - a ton.

I work it by bouncing it off the bottom. Usually with a craw trailer. But I agree with Alx, it's kinda overrated. I've spent the last couple of years trying to incorporate it into my regular arsenal and haven't noticed any difference in the amount or size of fish I caught. My 2 biggest fish this year (and ever, a 6.5 and 7.5) were caught on a Tx rig senko and a spinnerbait. I've caught more fish with a Tx rig speed craw than any other bait.

I have to be threatened will cold blooded murder for me to put the senko down.

It just seems that in the periods of fish moving deep, that it does not get the job done on some occasions.

I also need to start throwing more crankbaits more.

I am having a hard time transitioning deeper from the shallow grass flats that I love.

It's a damn good bait. I usually keep one handy.

For jigs, look at the NuTech jigs. They're bad arse. Just about every fish I've caught with one the hook was straight through the roof of the mouth. Never lost a fish once I got it hooked. And I have yet to get it hung up.

Those must be awesome, that is all that anyone uses around here.

I might pick up a few to throw around soon.

I have a couple of the pro series in different colors. Never tried any of their others.

One thing I will be using more of is a bladed jig.

Like a chatterbait?

I am about to do the same. I watched a show on WFN the other day about chatterbait vs spinnerbait and the chatterbait seems so versatile. They were fishing them with swimbaits, craws and all kinds of other trailers.

yes, especially in tree filled lakes. I think a lot of pitchers are fishing under the fish. if he/she doesn't follow it down, no bite.

Over the years, I've done better on black lake using a spinner bait by the trees than pitching. i think this is why.

This is the first year I really used them(chatterbaits), and I caught a good bit of fish on them at Toledo early this year.

As far as jigs go, there are different kinds for different times of year and depths of water. In muddy water I almost always have a black/brown/amber or black and blue flipping jig on. Usually somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 ounce depending on the water temp. In clearer water I like green pumpkin or black/brown/amber.

If it's cold I use a chunk trailer or a craw worn with straight pinchers and no action. Once it gets warmer I use craws like a speed craw or rage tail that puts off vibration.

In deep water I usually keep a 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz football head green pumpkin jig with rage craw trailer on it. I use it if I find a school and am catching them on a crankbait, then that bite dies down. I'll throw this jig in and just reel it slowly on the bottom, and give it a hop every few feet.

I might take a break from the perches this weekend and throw that clear bladed one with the swim bait trailer on the grass edges.

I never fished jigs that much in Louisiana growing up.

When I moved to the Carolinas, I started fishing them a lot. They are very good rock ledge baits. And rocky bottom baits. They worked ok in flooded and fallen timber for me. I actually liked shaky heads better there.

Now that I'm back in louisiana, I'm not fishing them really at all.

I bought one and threw it a little bit the last time I was there about a month ago. I didn't catch any largemouths but I caught two white bass that went a little over 2 pounds each

I must have been there about the same time in March

Only caught four in two days, but I caught em all on a black/blue chatterbait.

What trailers are yall using on the chatterbaits? The ones that come with the bait tear uup really easily.

Yeah I don't use those. I use rage tail craws on most. If I'm using a shad colored chatterbait then I use a swimming fluke or some other swimbait.
