Gas tankless is the way to go. Very efficient, endless amount of hot water. It takes a second to get the hot water to you, but once it's on, you can shower with your old lady for hours.

As I understand it they need more gas than conventional and a larger vent stack as well. I went back with conventional. They sound like an F18 in afterburn when they kick on, too.
Also heard it takes a while to get hot at point of need when said faucet is not close to heater. Also have to clean them due to scale/lime what have you. Too much sugar for a dime in my instance.

Conventional really is the best and by far the cheapest option for most people. Tankless is a bit of a fad right now. Unless you have a bunch of people living in the house or you just really like long-arse showers then the good old tank is still a great option.

We converted my mom's house 10 years ago from a gas tanked to gas tankless. The gas bill dropped in half and the 2 bathrooms and kitchen have all to hot water they need. As far as taking a while if the line is far from the heater, it is not much different than waiting for the hot water in a conventional set up. The super efficient tanked heaters of today do close the gap but we still will go tankless whenever we can.
