Talk to me about a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the 4.0L

I’m thinking about buying one. It’s got 138,000 miles on it, but from what I’ve read on Jeep sites, that’s nothing. Any specific issues to look out for? Maintenance outside of the norm that should be performed regularly?

I owned this exact model, a green Sahara to be exact.
The motors are bomb proof. Apocalypse motors. One of the major things to look out for is rust in the frame. These are “box frames” and Jeep hadn’t drilled proper drain holes in these years yet. The frames would rust from the inside out. Some dealerships/people will spray paint the frame to hide the rust so keep an eye out for that.
Other than that, the transmission is basic but no major issues. Check the 4WD to make sure it will shift as it should. They can get rough/stick if it hasn’t been shifted in 4WD for years. The ride isn’t comfortable, but it’s a Jeep.
Wish I still had mine.

I got 480,000 miles out of one of those engines. Tried to beat it to death for years without success. It went out on its own terms much later.

Price? If they’re asking $10,000, you’d be dumb to fork over that much for a 2000 and that mileage. $5000-6000 maybe…

Dont forget the little rubber duckies

You’re not going to find a TJ in that price range unless it’s a rusted out shite box that’s stock and has a hundred thousand more miles on it.
The one I’m looking at has been modified and is in excellent condition. They want $13,000.

I bought a ‘06 TJ SE (stock) for $9500 that had 96k miles on it in ‘19.
There’s nothing special about a Sahara unless you like the same color fender flares and green/tan interior.
If you're willing to spend in the teens, get a Rubicon. At least get something extra for your money.
Better options are out there if you keep your eyes peeled.

A lot has changed in the economy since ‘19 if you haven’t noticed
I do like the styling of the Sahara’s a lot, but I’m open to different models. I don’t really care to pay for the upgraded interior with all the fancy electronics since I’m going to add my own anyway, and I don’t really need front and rear lockers either. I like the simplicity of the older Jeeps.

Getcha this bad boy. It’s got a 5.7L Hemi swapped in it.

I don’t know how those compare to the one you’re looking at, but that was a quick 250 mile radius to BR. I’m cheap so I’d consider them. Not sure about your tastes though.
I’m not numb to the fact that you’d get much “cleaner” options in the teens, but there is a middle ground in the sub $10k range though. All depends on what you’re looking for.
A/C or No A/C
Hard/Soft Top
Carpet/no carpet
Sway bar disconnects
Lockers/no lockers
Manual/automatic transmissions
4cyl/6cyl (both are equally reliable)
Bone stock/modified

If it’s rust free and unmolested call me dumb

I have one. It has been a great vehicle . No mechanical issues except the AC compressor just went out. I will
Replace it before it gets hot outside.
