I will never buy a Ford with an Ecoboost.
Keep buying them POS GMs bailed out by Obama. Save for that new transmission after warranty period.
I’ve had several ecoboosts over several generations and service them myself properly and on time and the worse I’ve had was leaking coolant fittings and leaking vacuum pump in hundreds of thousands of miles. Your results may vary.

Have a 2020 expedition max XLT with fx4. Love that vehicle. No issues and 72,000 in.
Side note: parents just bought a Tahoe and it’s already been in the shop for a minor issue.

The 3.5 will go down in history as one of the best truck engines ever made.

What kind of oil are y’all using?
5W-30? 5W-40? Full synthetic?
I’m a big fan of Rotella T6 5W-40 based on oil analyses. Also a good tune and a 170° thermostat. I think a lot of people’s problems are due to worn out sheared contaminated oil. A cooler running engine reduces wear and increases oil life.
In theory you shouldn’t have to immediately modify a stock vehicle for reliability but the truth is they have to run the engine hotter and lean with closed loop fueling even under boost for emissions certs.

Yea no, as of two weeks ago I know of 6 guy who have had turbos blow under 75k. If you use a truck even moderately what they were originally intended for, not travel bb and grocery getting, they aren't that reliable.
The daul overhead cam 5.0 is a badass motor and some damn good engineering. It and the 351 Windsor are probably the best engines dropped in the F150s.

Look up Livernois, 5 Star Tuning, and More Power Tuning. You can get a programmer with custom tunes and a thermostat for about $600.

100% this. A minivan will change your life and has more storage than a Tahoe, Expedition, Suburban, and Yukon XL. They look like crap, but they are the single best vehicle for hauling kids. I owned a Tahoe and Expedition and I will die on this hill.
Every tripto the beach or the mountains, we leave the Tahoe and pile in the minivan.
It’s too easy and the kids can skip right to their seats. No climbing over shite.

I shopped expedition Max and Suburban/Yukon XL in 2020. Older Tahoe had zero usable space behind the third row. Got an a expedition Max and I love it mostly.
The new mode Tahoe/Yukon is bigger and now has a very slightly less amount of space behind the third row than the Max. The max has slightly less than the Suburban. I can fit all kids, plus ice chests and or luggage for trips.
I went w the Expedition bc the seat is more comfortable and it moves better with the eco boost. Suburban and Yukon XL felt like dogs n comparison and especially with pulling my boat.

Haven't driven a recent Expedition but would for sure agree the standard 5.3 liter in the tahoes and yukons are far from burners, just dont have the pickup, and my last Tahoe had that tiny delay from pedal push to acceleration that was annoying. The 6.2 liter, however, is a beast and totally different critter, a boss towing boats and much better with acceleration n such.

I'm in auto parts for a living, please buy the GM product. Thank you

That’s just flat out not true. I have over 250k miles across 3 ecoboosts

The great thing about the 5.3s before the AFM bs was they would run forever. AFM has killed what was a great motor.
If you could get a GM with a good transmission you could a AFM delete and tune the motor at a performance shop.
I would just go with a Ford with the 5.0 and hope that 10 speed doesn't shite the bed.

Yeah I’d live a 6.2. Friend has one and it’s great. I’m not that big a baller.

Wife has had 3 Yukons with the 6.2. Unreal motor. Just a monster with power to spare. The effortless acceleration is a blast to drive and I often use her car to tow the boats over my f250 bc it’s a hoss and rides great. The 5.3 feels like 1/2 the motor of the 6.2.

Maybe things have changed but when I was in the market for a pickup a few years ago, the 6.2 was tough to find. GM just wanted everyone to have the 5.3 even in some higher models. I’ll be damned if I’m spending $60k and still not getting the best engine.

They have screwed that motor as well, reliability wise, with the AFM bs.
