Surf fishing in Destin - questions...

Bought my 15 yo a Penn Fierce II 6000/ rod combo to fish beach in Destin. Any what for/how to advice? Thanks!

Tried a search, didnt see much.
Never surf fished. Guess Ill just let him try some shrimp, cut bait, or cracked crab on a kingfish leader with a 2 oz weight and 8/0 hook.

Anyway. I hope you enjoy the trip. Make sure everything he catches meets the legal limit....
Including those hotties. Sometimes close inspection is required.

I don't know about Louisiana, but off Destin/ PCB/ Pensacola this time of year they really prefer live bait. At least fresh bait. I'm guessing because it's so prevalent. I've been out in May and early June and same thing, can't get a bite on dead bait but live bait gets hammered.

You can or will catch tons of ladyfish no matter what you do. Be careful had to cut hook out of my fishing buddy when lady fish throw a mirrorlure
