Wanting to get a threaded barrel for my Springfield Mil-spec. Does anyone know if the storm lake barrels are truly drop-in for this model? If fitting is required, is that something the smith does to the barrel or the slide? I'd rather not have to do anything to the slide in case I want to go back to the stock set up.

Storm Lake Glock barrels are great and fit pretty darn tight. I have no experience with their 1911 barrels.

I have two. One was a true "drop in", the other required a little work. Both 1911's.

You mate the barrel to the slide.

I am currently waiting on a Jarvis threaded bull barrel for a 4" 1911 .

So do I just buy it, put it in my gun and check for function? Or is there something more technical I should be checking or having inspected?

Dude it's a 1911. Non-OEM parts = kB!

I'll just say if I was going to change the barrel in any of my guns I would spending whatever I could afford on a barrel that had to be fitted and I would use a gunsmith that had a good reputation. If it was one of my polymer guns id be looking for a quality drop in. Just my two cents.

Yep. I have a .357 sig barrel for my XD40. The first one I ordered didn't fit. The slide wouldn't close. They said some light fitting may be necessary. I sent it back in and the next one dropped right in and I've put thousands of rounds through it over the years with no hiccups.

I have a NE-GVT-45ACP-576-DI-US-ALPBT on my late '90s loaded. Dropped right in. Bushing fit was definitely better than the factory one. Have had zero issues.
I recommend.
