I'm not going to shoot anyone but it does make me mad because some trophy deer have been poached on our land the past few years.

So you can joke and I can't? Seems kind of hypocritical.

I guess the punchline flew harmlessly over my head. Better check your scope before you open fire on the poachers.

It is a shame how hard it is to get anything done about tresspassers. LDWF says call cops and cops say call LDWF. Tresspassers know that the law is screwed up and landowners are paying the price. State needs to clear this up. It's been going on too long!

Go a few towns over and buy a cheap BBQ grill and some charcoal using cash. When you find their car, light it up, stick it under their car, and leave.

Call Game Wardens.

Heck, if you know their routine, I would drive up and confront them.

How many acres you speaking off cause this is serious damn business... that would not fly on our property.

As I mentioned in another thread a few weeks ago, my neighbor had a similar problem with poachers. He waited until they were well into his woods, then he took his Chinese SKS and shot their two 4-wheelers plum full of holes. They never poached or trespassed on him again.

I've encountered two sets of poachers as of recently, OP. One was a young boy and girl that I chased down with just a shotgun after my dog jumped them while trying to hide from me on our property. They said they we're just squirrel hunting but had a bow with them. They got a stern warning and got sent on their way.

The other was what I believe to be the original Cope Wintergreen Bandit that left trash on our property after a early morning hunt. He was also jumped by my dog but he got away as I went back to my dad's shed to grab more gear. He must've ran like hell to get out of there because he made it on to the other property and was out of there in no time. I did manage to spot his truck,(early 2000s red Chevy Silverado with aftermarket wheels, so the typical thug poaching vehicle), and now know almost for certain who he is. So I have the upper hand.

My advice to you is this, OP...

Don't get law enforcement involved, just handle it yourself and make sure you have a rifle and pistol with plenty of ammo. Remember, the people you are dealing with obviously have no regards for the law or your property or they wouldn't be poaching in the first place. Post plenty of no trespassing signs with the warning that poachers will be shot on site. If people are to dumb to believe you, that's their problem.

We you confront them, be mild mannered but stern. You can be polite getting your point across but also show that you mean business. Let them know if you catch them again you will persue every ounce of legal recourse you can. Then tell them, "thanks... I appreciate it, y'all should know the way out." People are crazy and if you are too hard on them you may have a feud brewing before to long.

Record. Everything.

This is crucial, I left my phone in my truck and gopro at the office when confronting the first young couple and knew that I may be in trouble if the shite hit the fan when I confronted them, thank goodness nothing happened. The recordings come in handy in court and so you can post on the OB for all of our amusement.

I wish you the best of luck, OP. Poaching is always a ugly thing to deal with and it seems I do it fairly regularly now, but so goes fighting the outlaws in this world.
