Spinoff :Rat Sot in 22 !R Pistol-Ever know anybody that shot a hole in their boat.

My Dad used to tell a story about a guy he knew years ago when we lived In Bossier City.Guy used to carry a .410 in his boat to shoot snakes,he was fishing Lake Bisteneau and a cottonmouth fell in his boat.He panicked and shot the snake and a hole in his boat.He hung on a Cypress tree all night,game wardens found him next day.
A guy I used to fish with sometime told me a similar story.He used to carry a .22 semiautomatic rifle in his boat(aluminum).
A cottonmouth fell in his boat,he panicked and shot 14 holes in his boat.
He realized what he had done,cranked the motor,barely mad it to shore.
He whittled 14 sticks to plug all the holes,bailed the water out and made it back to the landing.
I can kinda understand,I had a moccasin fall in my boat once,I was beating hell out of it with a boat paddle,he was coming at me & I jumped in the water.He crawled over the transom into the water,back in the boat I went.
I’ll bet my heart rate was 150.
I’m not particularly bothered by snakes,I never felt the need to shoot them while I was fishing but sure as hell don’t one in the boat with me.

I build and repair aluminum boats, I usualy get one or two and year where somebody had a "negligent discharge" and shot a hole through the bottom or side of one. Usually one or two during alligator season and one or two during duck season, none so far thus year however

More than likely water snakes and not cottonmouth

Shot a hole in the side of my boat duck hunting one year. Above the waterline thankfully.

My brother shot the vertical handle on the old prodrive engines while swinging on a duck. Took a chunk out of it but no major damage;). I know he lurks here so I’m calling you out brother!

I shot one in my backyard koi pond and that's just a hard plastic liner and it didn't penetrate it and he was up next to it. Ratshot is small.

Buddy of mine shot a hole in his truck bed.
