I’m now exclusive Shimano, never had good luck with other brands, just looked on Amazon and Shimano Sahara 2500, $80, delivery tomorrow in BTR

I am now a huge quantum smoke fan. I compare them directly to the stradics I use to run but with better drag and durability. They are a little more expensive than your price range but I believe the durability makes it easily worth it.
As for sticking inside the price range I would stick with the shimano sahara for a very solid real for the price as well

Penn Spinfisher is about $135. The Penn Battle II is excellent and is about $90

Another vote for the Daiwa BG in the size 2500. I wouldn't mess with anything else in that budget.

Does anyone make a high end spin cast reel anymore?
My dad had been using the Daiwa GC120 for over 20 years. It holds up to bull reds. It's heavy. Built out of all metal, mostly aluminum and stainless I believe. The spool oscillates, unlike any other spincast out there. This oscillating spool lays the line down more evenly like a spinning reel. It can really cast far and cast some lightweight lures pretty well.
