Want to take the wife and son speckledtrout fishing and looking for input. Have fished with big lake guide service before and just sent them an email, but open to other suggestions. How y’all think the fishing will be early August?

Hot. Does Big Lake still do the night fishing trips?

It’s been a BAD year for Calcasieu. Inconsistent catches and guides can’t seem to pattern trout. I’d head to the east side of the state.

If you are deadset on Big Lake, Jeremy Waltrip is legit.

Big Lake fishing is too slow to take a family fishing, IMO. I would either head over to Cocodrie and go out with Tommy Pellegrin. Also, years ago, I went out of Golden Meadow with a guy named Zutie, who had a company called Bay Coast Charters. They were also very good.

Hard to think of trout guides and not mention Brandon Carter in Venice. August can be productive there fishing rigs.

just a suggestion but if your taking the wife and kid, wait till October. The fishing will be better and the weather won't be miserably hot. Hell, I don't even like to fish in August.

I'm not sure about a family friendly guide on Big Lake, but if you're open to going east, I've had some good trips with the family using Lane and Beau with Phil Robicheaux in Lafitte and Kris Robert out of the Rigolets.

I agree with the others. Do not go to Biglake and wait till October to go to Cocodrie or Venice.

Shorething Charters in Pass/BSL are good if you don't want to drive down to Venice. Guess it depends on where you're coming from. They have a lodge on Cat Island too, if you want to go all out.
