Tried to do some research on this before coming to the board, but everything I found was pretty dated. Rode out to Alligator Bayou / Spanish Lake for the first time this weekend, was very deep after all the rain we've gotten recently and looked like it would be pretty good fishing, but I didn't bring the tackle with me. I saw the articles relating to contamination, does anyone have experience fishing this area in recent years? Any insight on what the typical water level is?

Also saw quite a few blinds and a few ducks out on the lake, I assume the lake is private for hunting purposes?

The swamp tour place and a huge part of that Spanish Lake land was owned by two gay guys who pissed off the local government.

That whole lake is private, so you were trespassing.

If there were any posted signs, they must've been under water

Also, there used to be a boat launch on Hwy 74. The canal lead out to Spanish Lake.

Land in louisiana does not need to be posted for you to be trespassing anymore. It is the trespassers responsibility to determine who the property belongs to and obtain permission.
Just an FYI

That may be true, however there are many confusing laws regarding what is and isn't considered trespassing when entering from a navigable public waterway. Wasn't doing any type of activity in particular, was just curious as to the status of the lake and where any boundaries may exist. Couldn't find much specific info online other than people saying that it was once for public use before it was dried out.

There's a new boat launch off of Alligator Bayou Rd that launces in to Alligator Bayou. Anyone tried launching there and fishing?

There's no way I'd eat fish from that lake.
