I have a sd40ve and I don't think I like it. Works fine just not clicking with it.

Exactly how I felt. I’m not a good shot anyway but really struggled with the trigger. It was my first pistol so I thought the problem was me and not the gun. Then I bought a Canik and it was night and day. Voila I could suddenly hit the target. So I sold it.

Then you've not yet seen or talked to people who had to draw from concealment to deal with an imminent threat of death or great bodily harm. You can't tell me you'll get a perfect firing grip every time under these conditions.

Handling one at the range, with no time constraints and no pressure is a totally different matter. But even under those conditions I had one employee tell me a few years ago that he was selling his XD because at the range he had twice failed to fully deactivate the grip safety.

Grip safeties are marketing gimmick that should be avoided.

Normally I agree. But I have the Springfield XDS and it's fine. Don't even know it's there. My wife's Shield EZ sucks arse. I definitely have to adjust my grip after a couple shots. And it pinched the hell out of me one time when I was regripping.

In the case of the shield EZ, it's a single action pistol and the grip safety was necessary to make it drop safe. At least that's what I read on the internets.

It would be an extremely nice pistol if not for the damn grip safety.

That grip "safety" should be all you need to talk you out of it.

It's a preference for me, no reason for any DAO handgun to have any sort of external safety.

It isn't DAO. It's single action. They made it that way to get the trigger pull as short and light as possible. It's great in every aspect except for some reason the grip safety is finicky.
