Won’t need one, you just won’t be blowing out primers when you load to 80K. Some of the varmit cartridges should be absolute laser beams with this case.

True, as long as you're not hunting some of the. 100-150# whitetail deer wearing body armor. Our guns are already plenty powerful and flat shooting for big game hunting. Nevertheless, hunters (myself included) are always open to the idea of a new cartridge that'll require a new gun.

That’s how I ended up with a ton of calibers.

Started chasing speed years ago so went with .257 WBY and .264 win. Ended up doing a couple customs in 25/06, 6.5 creed and 6.5 PRC.

Then the suppressor bug hit me and I got tired of toting around a 24 inch barrel with a 6 to 8 inch can on it. Main hurting setup is now a 16 inch .308 with a 8.75 PTR Vent 1 on it for the quietest and shortest setup.

Now I’m contemplating having all my rifles threaded because the ones that aren’t juts collect dust.

Would be interesting to see what the ammo would do out of a 16 inch .308 because I’ve got so many rifles I really never need another caliber or rifle for the rest of my life.

Only thing that has peaked my interest is the 16 inch Horizon in the 7mm Backcountry but I’ve been waiting to see if it catches on. Could see ammo like this killing it though.

I’m in the same boat as you. My only gripe with my 16” .308 is it is on the heavier side. I’m seriously considering getting an 18” 6.5 CM to scratch the itch of a new rifle. I would get another .308 but I don’t want to make my existing one “obsolete.”

Which rifles have 18inch 6.5 CM?

Browning is what I’m leaning towards but I believe Savage and Bergara do as well. I’m sure there are others.

My rifle is only 5 pounds so any more FPS to get back to 24 inch barrel speeds would be great.

Playing around with GRT now - a 24” 308 is gonna push a 165gr accubond 2813 fps at 65K. An 18” barrel is showing 2812 fps at 80K, 16” is 2738 fps.

A 22” tikka 270 would be hitting 3207 fps with a 140gr bullet

I’ve got a Kimber MT. ascent in 280 AI but can’t remember if it’s 22 or 24 inches. I bet that bad boy would fly

For sure… but I doubt we’re going to see alloy casings for the 280 AI, at least anytime soon. I’ve just about given up on buying the 20” XBolt. IMO it would have been smarter for federal to make the 7mm Backcountry using .280 AI dimensions.

I've been watching a ton about this throughout the weekend.

My concern though is how do you know if your current gun can handle to extra pressure from the ammunition?

If able, I plan to buy a box or two and go shoot them. And if they shoot like advertise, I'll use them in Colorado.

I've been contemplating getting my dad's old Remington 7400 .270 threaded for this reason. I actually took it out with me 2-3 times last year but didn't pull the trigger. If it were threaded, I'd probably use it more than my 6.5 CM.
