Tennessee. Birds nest at top of gutter drain10’ up with chicks in it. My daughter notices a chick on the ground. Shines her light up to the nest and a snake is in the nest having a meal. (I’m in FL 7 hours away so couldnt help). I tell her to get the dogs taken care of, ignore the chick on the ground and get to bed. The wife is worried about the snake goin inside thru a hole or crack. I figure hed rather be outdoors all summer. I’ll try n post a pic. Wife thought it may be a rattler d/t the pattern but the pic is too grainy to tell. A) would a rattler climb up brick and into a nest? B) would the snake rather be on the woods than indoors?

Agree with Rize, can't go 100% but from that pic I'm almost positive it's a Rat snake.

I don’t think rattlesnakes climb walls or trees. It’s no doubt a rat snake.
Your wife sounds like my dtr in law, every snake she sees is a rattlesnake. My wife is just as bad, every snake she sees is a water moccasin.

Rat snake.
And it has no interest in being inside your air conditioned home. If it gets into your attic space, it’s only doing so to rid your attic of mice or rats, then it will leave. Eating the chicks is just the reality of nature. Eating rodents is doing you a favor.

Agree with everyone else. That looks like a rat snake, and they are notorious climbers. Not harmful to have around. He'll leave in a bit after he digests those birds.
