Smelt Fishing

A friend of mine was talking about frying smelt fish and her pictures looked like fried whole minnows. Do we have smelt in Louisiana and call it something else? I’d never seen this before.

ya i saw that on north woods, its like little sardines they eat whole

i kinda laughed thinking i would rather use them for bait then eat those slimy things

These were fried and I first thought they were sardines. She said they were similar to perch in taste. I’d love to give them a try!

I mix these in feeding my dog. Great supplement!

I don’t think we have them on our coast though.

Was served some on a deer hunt in Wisconsin. Tasted good fried, but I would not eat the heads on them. They thought it funny a Cajun would not.
