I have a 7.5 Sears Gamefisher. Sears stopped making them in the 90s and parts are hard to come by.

The previous owner was using a Mercury impeller, but had issues with it burning up over time. Recently the impeller went out on me with a sheared pin.

QUESTIONS: Should the impeller fit this tight in the pump? I've never taken one apart, but this one is extremely tight and difficult to turn. I have to pry it out with a screwdriver. The whole thing is rubber except for the sleeve that is bronze, so I can see where it would burn up easily.

Yes, that is how it supposed to fit.

You're right I think Eska made this one, but Sears doesn't carry the parts I need anymore.

Yep. Will be a little off centered looking and the blades of the impeller will be flared like that.

when replacing with a new one make sure the blades are bent in the same and correct direction.

You can also use a small amount of grease or other rubber friendly lubricants to help yourself when reinstalling the new one.

Looks like a nice fit. I change impellers every year, so what you are describing is probably normal. Better to change every year than have impeller veins clogging cooling systems.

A zip tie helps, too.

they will all be facing the right direction after a couple of revolutions.

Usually but not always, and if one faces wrong way pump output will be affected. Worse, it could break the blade off when trying to force it to correct direction.

This for sure. Ever tied fishing out a piece of broken impeller? Big PITA.

Just remember, the motor turns clockwise, so the impeller blades goes the other way. Oh, some impellers have a top side and must be install that way.

never took a pic because I didn't think I would ever need to prove they don't all flip all the time but I can assure you after taking apart a 1971 70 HP Chrysler lower unit for the third time (because it was still not pumping right) that 2 of 6 blades were facing the wrong way and 1 of the six was cracked from being forced over. I had put it in with three one way and the other three the other way because it was so tight.
