If you’re after “fun” you need to be renting. Or going to one of those grow -up amusement parks where they let you operate machines.

If you buy an older skid steer you are going to be looking at big maintenance costs. As others said they're gonna run 60k but people like Kubota normally have 0% interest.
Your best bang would be a new tractor so you aren't buying someone else's problems. Unless you know someone in the rental industry that works on the side and will come to your place to fix it. Otherwise you have to load it up and take it somewhere to be fixed.

My budget is around 15k.
For that amount of money you’re better off getting a good used Kubota with quick attach loader option. My L4600 has the hydrostatic drive.
15K isn’t going to get a skidsteer with less than 1K hours. It’s more likely to have been beat to hell as well.

Yea a skidsteer isn’t something you want to buy used as others have said unless you are an experienced mechanic or know one really well. Bobcat and kubota offer 0% financing.

I've got a 50hp tractor 2wd with loader. Never needed 4x4. Smaller lighter tractors may need it. It was $5k for 4x4 when I bought this tractor 20 years ago. I maintain 20 acres, baled hay and countless other jobs with it.
And get a quick attach loader grapple ready if you live in hurricane area.

The fun of a skid steer wears out very quickly and feels like work after your bouncing around in it.
Rent one for a weekend with a job in mind and get it out of your system lol

Probably a really good idea lol
Looks like I’m going to be searching out a tractor now.

$15-20 grand will get you a decent used 35hp. Much easier maintenance than a skid steer. Quicker to learn.
It will do anything a skid steer can do but much slower. Just maintaining a small property it's the way to go.
If I won the lottery I'd have a new skid steer at my house the next day. Until then my 20 year old john deere is just right.
