My cousin has a silver lab. He was pretty careful researching a breeder to find one that wasn't inbred. he is 6 now. He retrieves ducks and dove, blood trails deer, hell he even taught the dog to close the door. It is hands down the best dog i have been around. He has bred him a few times and the pups all are awesome dogs. Some have won field trials in mississippi.

how do you think we ended up getting dogs from wolves? Selective breeding has made chihuahuas from wolves. A chihuahua can screw a wolf and get it pregnant. that's how close they are to each other.

Dude they are great dogs. Temperament is fine and very social. They have the same problems as every other lab in addition to having mild to severe skin alergies. Mine hunted her arse off and ran circles around my cousins high priced trained black lab.

I had to supplement her food with an Omega complex that I got from the vet. It helped with her skin allergies, but did not alleviate them to the extent that the summer didn't bother her. Her skin fared better in the cooler weather.

I personally would get one again, only because I'm not buying another lab. My next dog will be a Golden.

Just be aware of their skin issues.

If you want a pretty colored lab get a red fox. Just like silvers are registered as chocolates, reds are classified as yellers.

My cousin has a silver lab and she is one of the best upland game/waterfowl dogs I have ever hunted with. I have owned GSPs all my life but am considering a change after hunting ringnecks and shooting ducks/geese with her.
