Fished out of Cocodrie this weekend and saw lots and lots of reds. The tide was falling, water was a little murky, and I could not get the fish to bite for anything. For the most part, we did not scare the fish, even poled around to be even stealthier, but it didn't help. We were using matrix shad, (several colors), and then switched to a spoon and got a few to bite. but for the most part, the fish just didn't care. Also tried a few flies as well, with no success.

Anyone have a trick or bait that has worked in the past in this type of situation?

I didn't have any live bait, but i bet that would have done the trick.

I had a few inhale the crab fly after the tide dropped out a little bit and I could see fish. Had a big one that couldn’t care less about anything though.

Thinking back, some of the reds we caught did throw up some baby crabs. I through a crab fly for a little while, but it was a homemade on that was a little on the ugly side.

Found a spot on the west bank you were fishing that must have had 15+ reds sitting on top of a little underwater mound. only could get one to bite.

Sometimes for me it's just like that. I throw everything I have (except live bait) and they just won't take. I'd rather not see any, than see them and not be able to get them to bite.

I would have tried crawfish like a shu shu or matrix, spinnerbait, or chatter bait. Love me some chatterbaits in murky water

Netbait's Paca Craw in the Alabama Craw color is the most successful redfish bait (other than crab flies) that I've ever seen when it comes to getting finicky fish to eat. They're not durable, but that's the price you pay for a bait with crazy action. Rig it weedless with a 1/8 or 1/4oz weighted shank, with ~18" of fluoro leader and you will get more eats on days when they don't really want to eat otherwise.

Gold spoons are also obviously really successful baits, but the crawfish hits the water a lot softer. Sometimes redfish will spook off of spoons when the water is super clean and shallow. especially where the spoon is a larger size.

Fished Sunday out of dularge in a kayak, limited by 930, with plenty throwbacks for sport. Fished exclusively with fresh shrimp under popping cork.

If I'm down to my last resort when they are turning their nose up then I'm adding scent to the picture. Either Gulp plastics or adding Pro Cure.

I would hate to have to stoop down to GULP! ahaah but its better than not catching at all.

I lost one Saturday morning that I am still pissed about. Put an LSU matrix shad right in front of him, he fricking smashed it but almost instantly got off. 2 minutes later had the pleasure of catching a big arse sting ray

Chaz seems to hammer them on the matrix craw.

One of several videos I have seen of him smashing them on this bait.

Sometimes a little smell to the bait is the ticket. Nothing wrong with throwing Gulp, especially if it works

The Matrix Craw and the Paca Craw are very similar baits. The Matrix Craw is a bit more durable, but doesn't have quite the amount of action as the Paca Craw.

I prefer the SHUSHU craws. They are a lot more durable with better colors IMO. Put it on a LazyMan hook and its a redfish machine.

Dead shrimp on kale hook with no weight. You need a spinning reel to be able to cast because it is so light.

I'm no fan of gulp but I've seen it work in these situations.
