Was over at mom and dad's today. Out of the clear blue. dad asks me, "Of the things in the gun safe, what might you be interested in one of these days?" He's in his late 70's ancient didn't think he'd have much use for them going forward.

Looking in there, I have a few options. He's got two 20 gauge A5''s that are around 50 years old. He's also got a mint A5 sweet 16 from the 1980's, and a 1970's vintage 1100 12ga. There are a couple of .22s and single shot 20's. My brother and I will split those. He gets the 30-30. He's got twin boys, but only 1 is a hunter. I've got ano 80's vintage 870.

If you could only have 1, which one would you want?

Should have mentioned that 1 has improved and one has a modified choke.

Being out west, Mod would be my first choice.

I would take the sweet 16, the twins should have the 20’s even though one does not hunt, he might get into clays or something, and just seems right for twins to have the pair

Second choice would be the 1100

If this is the way goes down, my brother can use the other 20 until he passes it down to the other twin.

Honestly, this is the way I was leaning, for the very reason you stated.

Truth be told, I can't go wrong with any of them.

I'd take a sweet 16 even if it's not Belgian. Hell, not being a Belgian just means you use it more and don't feel guilty about it being a collector.

Is this the consensus? Going back to Mom and dad's in a little bit.

Yeah, I’d take the 16, and let the twins have the 20’s. The others you listed don’t do a whole lot for me.

Another vote for the twins getting the 20’s and you taking that 16

Personally I love the 16 more but get why you’d prefer the 20

So, it wasn't made in the 80s then. They stopped manufacturing at the FN factory in 1975 I believe.

If it's a Belgian, get it.

How to tell when it was manufactured.

Thanks everyone. I knew this was the place to ask. Hopefully it will live in there for awhile, but will have my name on it.
