I have a Glock 43 that I took out for the first time yesterday. Seems like I was consistently hitting 6" lower left on my head shots at ~20yds. Not til I was aiming higher to compensate for that did I hit the head shot.

I'm a very much beginner, so it is probably me with poor trigger technique. I see lower left is a common trigger problem explained on youtube.

Anyone still very accurate at long range with a subcompact?

How are you holding the front sight on the target? Glocks don't use a 6 o'clock sight picture with factory sights You have to hold dead on through the dot. At least I do with my G26 and it's been dead on to about 15 yds.

More like sight image 3 here. I just did some dry fires, and I'm quite certain its having to do with my trigger finger. I'm pulling the trigger all deep in the bend of the finger. I'm now seeing proper trigger technique on youtube.

With my 10mm I am, but with my PPQ, I have to consciously think about how I pull the trigger. My pointer finger is fricked up so it is hard for me to pull the trigger straight back. I have to really pay attention past 20 yards. I end up hitting consistently at 7-8 o'clock if not, but not 6" lower. (Special thanks to CD for letting me chew through a few 2x4s at Honey Island )

From what was explained to me by a few trainers, I was slightly pushing the gun to the left when my finger pulled back

Make sure only the last part of your finger is on the trigger. Keep the finger part on it, not the joint part. You can also try and turn your grip more inward to get your finger on there correctly. That's what I have to do (but my finger is fricked up)

Probably your best option is to get a good trainer to watch you. They know the mechanics and fundamentals, and can observe things you can't see. Unless they are an a-hole, they won't have any problem doing it for free

Also, you have to train yourself out of it over many, many sessions. You won't be able to fix what comes naturally over 200 rounds

I have a LaserAmmo pistol kit and when I'm bored or weather doesn't cooperate for a range trip I set it up.

a. 20 yards isn't really "long" range. But it does require careful sight alignment, good trigger control and good attention to the sights while you press the trigger.

b. Unless you're not right handed -- 90% chance you're flinching.

c. Youtube videos are "all over the map" with some pretty silly "solutions" to low-left. Not sure which one(s) you looked -- hope it/they worked for you.

A target to help you out at the range

J/k. Perhaps this will help

Thanks for the pointers guys. It was my first time shooting in about 10years. I'll see if I can work on some things on my next trip to the range.

On a positive note, I put 200 rounds of Winchester/Remmington ammo thru the G43 without a hitch.

Yeah - you're using more of a revolver technique. Really, with almost any semi - you want to use the pad of the first joint of the trigger finger - and remember you're pressing the trigger - not pulling or even squeezing (although squeezing may be appropriate visualization on some rifle triggers) - but visualize a press - like pressing a button, with constant pressure through the break.

You might look into a Ghost 3.5 lb. connector or similar product to lighten the trigger pull. I put one on a G19 (gunsmith installed it at the register in a couple minutes) and it really improved it for me.

The glocktalk bulletin board is a good source for Glock and other shooting info.

I own the 42 and 43, all the issues that they had with the 42 were fixed prior to the 43 getting released. I wouldn't worry about your 43 not taking any ammo. It has chewed through about a dozen different types of ammo I've put through mine without a hitch. Got a little over 2000 rounds through it so far and it's a fantastic shooter.

Get some more range practice, you will love the gun

You are most likely anticipating the round going off. Cap and dummy drill is the best way to correct that.

Your fundamentals are:
Stance
Grip
Sight alignment
Trigger control
