On emissions….because I just so happened to have to manage part of that in my previous life….
There are credits from the EPA and it is very heavily regulated.
So, you could conceivably have the exact same US spec engine, but minus the emissions label, it’s not the same engine in the eyes of the EPA.
Some of the machines we imported had non-compliant engines, but because we imported tens of thousands of compliant machines, we were given credits by the EPA to legally import.
It’s so strict, we once built engines with only the wrong label. EPA made us track every one down and replace the label on the valve cover to bring them into compliance.
This is the part of the deal that I think has the most risk….determining what emissions requirements have to be met for import.
Throwing a boat on a flat rack without engines would be stupid simple and easy.
