Selling timber

I'm ignorant on this subject. We have a small plot of family land, about 10acres, that has never been cleared. Lots of old growth pine, oaks etc. How do these transactions work. Can you ever get paid, or is it merely best to hope someone clears your land in exchange for the timber?

You are not going to be able to sell 10 acres right now. I have 40 acres in Liberty, MS that needs to be thinned and can't find anyone to do it without giving them the thinned pine. Unless yo have a a big track you are out of luck I am afraid.
ETA: not saying you can't find someone to cut it but you may actually have to pay a little right now.

You could probably get this at best

If you have hard wood logs you can get paid. Only having ten acres puts you at a disadvantage. You will have to find a small contractor.

I just recently sold timer on 75 acres of land, the process is you find a timber buyer, or broker that wants the timber, they will present you with a typical timber contract that will give the terms of the sale, if you agree to the terms you sign and notarize the contract and you will receive payment before any trees are cut.
