Sac-au-lait, crappie, and white perch

Are all these just different names for the same fish? I know sac-au-lait and white perch are the same but what about crappie?

No, White Perch is the only name they should be called. All the others are just stupid.

We call them crappie in Alabama. South of Montgomery it's pronounced crap-ee. North of Montgomery, it's pronounced crop-ee.

The answer to your question is yes. I grew up in NELA where they've always been white perch. I now live in SELA where they are crappie or saccalait. Folks look at me like I'm crazy when I ask about white perch down here.

I believe crappie is what you will find on most fish id charts. With that said, in NELA they are white perch, no matter if they are black or white crappie.
