Any of yall familiar with these? Saw my first Russian honeybees today, in the wild. Bigger than our native honeybees, but a little more aggressive, too. They were brought into Baton Rouge first, I understand? Native honeybees are hard to find up here now. LINK

I have Italian bees
they are docile and easy to manage and very prolific
they also make a mean marinara sauce

No honeybees are native here. They were introduced from Europe. The Russian strain is less common here than the other strains, like the Italian bees, but are available.

Just to clarify so OBers don't go to work tomorrow telling everyone that bees are not native to America. (Honey) bees are not native.

Are you bee keeping or do they just live wildly on your property

Not really. They've only done it once and it was my fault for taking shortcuts. No smoke, no veil, at dusk, in a dearth

I've been thinking about doing that for a while. Is it difficult to get started?

Nah. Just need some equipment, supplies, and bees. There are a ton of good videos on youtube. You usually get started in late winter/early spring. You can order packages online or buy a nuc (miniature colony) from a local beekeeper. Of course you could catch a wild colony if you're up to it
