My 7mm rem mag is set 4.5" high at 100. Zero is at 400 yards. Been that way for 18 years. I practice regularly at 50, 100, 250 and 400.

Very unconventional i know, but i have been shooting this setup for nearly 20 years so i know where to hold at different ranges. The past 10 deer i have taken at 35 yards or less in the last few years, but i used to do a lot of pipeline hunting... killed quite a few at 250+. Also use this rifle for elk and mule deer out west where I may have shots at 500 yards. 425 is my record on a cow elk in colorado...

Bottom line is know your ballistics and practice practice practice.

I've heard they drop a lot past 150. Shot a hog and deer last year at between 80 and 100. Hit both so imagine I'm good to go for this season.

i like my shite to be zeroed close to 100. I don't often take far distance shots where i hunt. bullet is still "rising" from 100-to about 200 yds for most rifles.

What am I looking at? Does this mean my bullet goes up 3.5 inches at 80 yards?

Gotcha. Explains why I hit both high last year.

Looks like that graph shows it's zeroed at about 40 yards. 2 inch high at 80. And back to zero at 140. So yes. You are actually launching the bullet up as it leaves the barrel. As long as the scope is level.

With that chart and sighting, if you aim dead in out to about 160 or so. You won't do any worse than 2" above or below.

Good enough to kill a deer or hog.

150 grain on the 280. Not sure what type of bullet. When I got the gun from my dad he gave me a plastic box full of ammo that goes with it.

Per Hornady a 139 grain cartridge is still rising at 100 yds. The amount is 1.3 to 1.4 inches. It's "zeroed" at 200 yards. Hope this helps.

I use a 100 yd zero.

I also use a chrono and then make a ballistics chart using a couple programs.

If its a match, Ill make a couple of cards with different temperatures, probably like 20 degrees apart.

I shot it 5 times Saturday. Hit about where I was aiming at 50 yards so I figure I'm good. If I was shooting up to 300 yards I'd be a lot more concerned and zero it at 100 and shoot at different distances to figure out where it's hitting. Shooting 100-150 yards max through the swamp is about my max

We just sighted in my temperamental 7 mag and .270wsm a couple of weeks ago at 25 yards. Both are 2" high at 100.
