Rifle question

Admittedly I’m lazy, but I figured you guys could tell me quicker than I could find it on the internet. Everything else being equal, would changing a fixed stock to a collapsible stock change the legality of owning any particular rifle? Or does it have more to do with length of the barrel?

Regardless of the barrel length, if the overall length is shorter than 26 inches with the stock fully extended and all muzzle devices removed, it would be a short barreled rifle and would be an NFA item requiring a tax stamp and registration.

NFA rules apply to barrel length and overall length.
Keep the barrel16” or longer and the overall length 26” or longer and you’re legal.
