This will do no good at all. I really don't think you're getting it. Farm pond use has nothing to do with this thread.

LA also started doing boat titles sometime last year on any boat bought for more than $2500...i bought a boat in arkansas a month ago and am having to jump through hoops to get this thing registered here.

Your boat didn't have a title?

it had everything, i just forgot to get the guys arkansas registration card transferred to me, i called and asked them what i needed and they told me i needed an original bill of sale and the registration card...i called back 2 weeks later and told them i had the card then she told me i didn't need a bill of sale if i had that...half the people who work there don't even understand the regulations

I see. Dad had to go through some crazy shite with my brother's truck because someone elses name was also on the title and we had to track them down.
Also on the boat, the previous owner that the guy we bought it from had bought it from never signed the title (I think...it was something like that) and so that was some more bullshite to go through that ultimately got resolved

The concept of title is new, and looks to be experimental. I don't get it. Never have had a title to a boat.

yes it is, and i believe you're right
check this one out...when i bought it we were transferring the title on the trailer over at the notary, well either me or him wrote 30k instead of 500 for the sale price of the trailer like what was on the bill of sale...so now i have 2 choices, pay sales tax on 30k or get an affidavit of correction done which means i have to get it mailed from arkansas...just a huge PITA

They were doing them in 2010 on new boats and some banks were requiring them on used purchases too. Thats when I found out about them.
Now this nonsense about a motor title... Im still not sure I believe that

i am looking to buy a used set up for under a grand, the owner says he does not have the papers on the motor but does have it on the trailer and boat? can i get this registered properly?

Yes. You will have to title the trailer and register it with DMV and only registar the boat with LDWF.

quote:man. That's shitty. You would think if you had the serial number from the boat that they would want it registered. Money for them and a way to track the boat. Say u bought a stolen boat and went to register it... They find out its stolen and you can now locate and ID the guy who jacked it and sold it. This must be a new practice and they must have had an announcement for any of these exceptions to get taken care of before the new laws went into place. Bc I promise that is what ldwf told us to do with that bateau years ago.
If I lived in BR, I would seriously consider trying this, but after 30 minutes on the phone with numerous individuals, they all come back to me needing some form of paperwork other than just a BOS. If it's a really old boat with no manufacturer or HIN, then you could probably skate by, but on a <10y/o Alumacraft, they aren't lenient. ETA: I'm not disputing your story or the idiocy of the law. Plenty of people (as you mentioned) have old bateaus sitting around that have never been registered, old and new. If the paper work was lost somewhere along the way, you're SOL is the story I consistently get from LDWLF.
I would post this on some of the other fishing boards and see what kind of info you can get (louisianasportsman, rodnreel, saltycajun). There are always loop holes... Good luck

Ok, this is how I got the paperwork done on JUST the boat.
The guy I bought the boat from didn't register it. So, we went to a Notary which did papers that stated a judgemenship of who own said boat. From there, a register form was filled out too. Both papers were stamped and sign from the notary. After that, I just walk in to WL&F and got my numbers.

Is this a special document that a notary would have or is this something I can pull from somewhere online? I would really like to register this boat but keeping hitting dead ends...
ETA: Was this recent?

The titling thing is relatively new, because the problem arouse over people needing to get new motors and not having the cash for it. With the boat now having a title the owner can take out a loan for a new more and offer up the boat's title as collateral.
Not many states give/require titles for boats.
