Daiwa Tatula can cast a mile and be had at around $90 online

Why?
Just never really got into using one. I've always used spinning reels. Good friend of mine swears by a baitcaster but always gets birdnests every time we go out.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do have a Penn Fierce and really like it but the saltwater's got it locked up.
I suppose I could work on it. Always good to have a backup when on the water though.

Learn how to use one and you'll swear by them too. BPS Pro Qualifier is a good entry level for $100 or less depending on the sale. The dual braking system can be set up where it's easier to cast than a Zebco.

Both types have a place and purpose. People who tell you to use one or the other exclusively are wrong.

diawa cross fire 3500 spinning reel is great
IMO not a better reel for the price and is only $30-$35
it can handle 30" redfish with ease if you set the drag correctly and its great for trout as well

Man, that is music to my ears considering I have kids to feed. That's some good ROI when considering what fish goes for.
Good reviews on Amazon too.
