Just in case anyone uses this thread as a reference in the future... Pretty sure you do need a licensed installer in Grand Isle. I don't think Lafourche Parish Parish Health Unit will give the blessing to anyone other than a licensed installer, installing a mo-dad. They also require a detailed plan of your lot and planned installation. Also, a mo-dad type system is required, a septic tank won't cut it. Minimum 500 gallon for a camp or a lot with a camper.
When I bought my RV lot at Constance Beach back in 2007, the guy with Cameron parish who approved permits suggested I buy a Mo-Dad "camp or limited use septic" and saved me a couple thousand bucks. I think I paid $1300 for it and installed it myself.

Was thinking of these initially, I do know they are approved by the state, not sure about GI

quote:From what DownSouthDave was saying, you apparently have to install a 500 gallon minimum system. I'm a little confused when he says "No septic systems, Mo-Dad type only" though.

I thought aerobic treatment could be used anywhere.

Grand Isle is very restrictive.
I meant no septic systems as in just a "septic tank" you have to have an aerobic treatment.

Guess it makes sense. My limited use system is only approved for "4 days of continuous use and less than 100 gallons daily."
Two of my neighbors down there spent like $5000 on their sewage systems and I spent $1300.

Yeah, some are just basically a holding tank, not a sewage treatment system.
How much for the Mo-Dad 1 (500 gal. poly)?

That's correct. If you want 2 campers, it has to be larger, maybe 800 gallons? It's been a while since I've seen the requirements, but that's close.
They aren't cheap, that's for sure.

Did a great job for me.
And you'll want to use the mixed limestone, that will set hard. You don't want the loose stuff that will wash away.

Thanks Dave. Do you spend a lot of time on the island?

I bought a lot down there last year and put a 5th wheel on it.
Right after, I took an assignment in St. Croix. I haven't had an opportunity to spend time there, but hopefully I will at some point.

Gotcha I am retired and spending summer down here and trying to get a camper set up.

I enjoyed it very much before I had to leave.
If there are any other questions you have, I will do my best to answer them.
Milo has a good crew and will be able to help you line up anyone else you might need.
I'm not sure if you have a lot already, but Nora Connell, would be someone to talk to. She works for the city and can tell you everything you'll need to get it done.

Thanks again Dave. I do own a lot and I have been working with Nora. She is very helpful but the regs are somewhat stringent. I may take you up on the offer for additional resources. In the near future I am looking at bulkhead repairs and a small pier.

Call Lee Townsend for the bulkhead and wharf. 985-665-5834. His wife also works for the town and makes permitting easy.
