Two friends from out of state and I are looking to make a guided rice field hunt on Friday and then head to venice to hunt the weekend. We don’t wanna drive across the state if we don’t have to so does anyone have any suggestions on a rice field guide/? This will take place in January 2018. Thanks in advance

man, that is gonna be a hell of a drive....venice is a long way from any solid ground, let alone anything fertile enough to farm.

Closest rice fields are probably gonna be a little north of port barre, but I’ve never heard of any guides around there. Closest rice field guides will probably be around Kaplan and that’s probably 4 hours to Venice. Maybe just look at hunting the marsh in Venice? They have some of the best duck hunting around.

Spankum. That's some awful fertile soil there.

If you’re serious, look for something in the MS Delta. If not, just marsh hunt.

Yeah I hunt Venice every weekend during the season I was just looking for something a little different. I have hunted in Welsh once but it was during t so season and didn’t have much luck. I always heard rice fields were on fire in January so that’s part of reason I wanted to try once as well

You're looking at 4-5 hour drive from Cajun prairie land

Why would anyone want to leave Venice to hunt ducks??? Is the season closed?

I make about 15 hunts a year in Venice and I just want a change of scenery. Hey
