Does anyone own a Ranger RT188? Curious what motor, prop, electronics most got when purchasing this boat. Also what is the top speed?

I bought one in October 2015. I have a 115 4-stroke Yamaha with a 20P powertech prop. The top speed I've seen on the gps was 47, but 45 is what I top out at in normal conditions. My boat has lowrance elite 7's at the console and front deck.

I've had mine for 2.5 years now. Got the 2 stroke merc 115. I still haven't put any electronics in it mainly because I never used what I had in my old boat.
BTW I love my rt188.

Mine will be 2yo in September.
Camo, dual console, with the SHO.
Pretty sure it has a 19 pitch Yamaha prop that came stock from Ranger.
Added a camo Powerpole, HDS 7 touch on the console, Elite 5 on the bow, upgraded to the 80# Fortex, bimini top, blinker trim, hot foot, an hour meter on the console, and put a Boss radio into the speedometer hole with two custom speaker boxes where the step up to the front deck.
With all the extra weight and my family of 4, usually runs 46-49mphs top speed at 6000rpm. A lot of guys say it should be pushing 6300rpm but it runs fine for my liking.

I bought mine in February this year. It has the Mercury command thrust and came with a 24p Tempest. Top speed has been 47 mph but I'm only getting to 5,800 rpm's. I have the Elite 7 in the console and trying to decide what to put upfront.
Does anyone have a jackplate?
Coot, can you post a picture of how your speakers are mounted?

4" setback plate. Will post pics of speakers when I get a chance.

I have a hydraulic jack plate on mine. Definitely worth it considering all the shallow areas I fish.

I haven't heard of anyone running a 24P on a RT188. What is the hole shot like?
I don't have a jackplate yet. Only problem is I also want to put one of those new Minn Kota Ultrexx trolling motors also. I need a money tree!

The boat jumps out the water and gets on plane at half throttle. The overall performance with the 24p prop is excellent. I just think I could get more top end speed if I could turn more rpm's. Going to see if I can add a 4" jack plate, garage space is limited.
Ranger started putting the 24p prop as standard for the RT188 when Mercury introduce the 115 4-stroke Command Thrust. It's basically the 150 4-stroke gearbox to allow for turning larger props. The Command Thrust replaced the Mercury Big Foot.
I would also like to upgrade the trolling motor but it's a lot of money to justify when I have one that works.

New trolling motor first. 47 I'd plenty fast enough.

You might be money with a 23p with some cupping.
I've had my RT188 since March 2015. Love the boat. Dual console with the merc 2 stroke. 20p Laser 2 prop cupped by Hole Shot Propeller in Houma. No jackplate or set back plate and stock Lowrance 3's at bow and console. Don't use electronics much where I fish.
Top speed with just me and tourney load is right at 50 barring any significant headwind.
I cut the tabs off under the boat and that really opened her up. Love the 115 pro xs 2 stroke but would rather the 4 stroke for ease of maintenance and lack of oil consumption.
Can't go wrong either way.

Did you get someone to do that for you or did you cu them off yourself? I'm hesitant to do that because of what I've heard about the porpoising issue with the early RT188's.

I cut them off myself with an air tool then filed the rough edge off with a metal file. The weld bead is still there just because I don't want to get too close to the hull metal.
Cupping the prop takes care of the porpoising after the tabs are gone. Those two things should be done together.
I know some prop guys, Brian with Hole Shot for sure, have experience with this boat. Told him what boat, motor and prop I have, where my RPM's were, and he knew exactly what to do.

6-1/2" Kenwoods without an amp are very loud condsidering the fact. Will cover speaker boxes with hydroturf whenever I cover my decks.

Curious as to why this is important?

Know a guy who has an 2017 RT188 with a 115 SHO claims it runs 55 mph gps. No jackplate or anything else special. I never heard of one running that fast so I was just curious what others have seen.
Thanks for the picture Coot

Did he get work done on the motor?
If it's a stock SHO he is blowing smoke.

No work done to the motor. He just got finished breaking it in. I'll have to ride in it and see it for myself to believe it.
