Question for people who hunt around simmesport/marksville

I have a 5 day stretch to hunt, Friday-Tuesday, and wondering if people who hunt that area are seeing deer rutting. Thinking about heading back up to yancey and doing some tent camping and bow hunting. I hunted the whole week of Christmas and saw smaller bucks chasing, just wondering if it’s still going down in that area.
I hunted Sherburne today and found some scrapes and rubs, but the weekend crowd there is ridiculous. I’ve been weighing the pro’s and con’s all evening and narrowed it down to this:
Sherburne pro’s: there’s scrapes on the ground so they’re probably rutting. I can go home every night and shower and sleep in a warm bed.
Sherburne con’s: the weekend crowd of bow hunters, squirrel hunters and rabbit hunters.
Yancey pro’s: less people and easier to get away from.
Yancey con’s: it’s going to be in the 20’s and get down to the teens by Monday night and I’ll be in a tent. No shower or shitter. Don’t know if they’re rutting still.
I’m all for freezing my arse off if the deer are chasing, but I don’t want to waste my 5 day stretch on post rut deer. I typically never ask for info on what the deer are doing, but can someone who hunts up there help me make my mind up?

If I had a chance to not be around as many people I would do that. Make a trip for two days and if the woods are poison in marksville then redirect and go fight the fudds close to home?!?

Stay in a hotel in Natchez or at the casino in Marksville.

Scratch RKY and head to the south tract of Tunica hills wma. Hunt the creek at the end of north 1, 2 or 3 trails. You’ll see some chasing next week.

There's a Hampton Inn across from the casino that's reasonable and fairly clean.
Not sure I'd be basing anything on scrapes or rubs in January. May be different there but I doubt it's that different. You're in post rut. There will be some does that didn't get raped well enough last cycle that might be coming up now but that's probably not many of them and you'd have to be the luckiest dude in the world to come across one in daylight.

It's definitely not post rut here in Marksville. It's the heat of the rut right now.

Deer are rutting right now. I hunt just outside of Marksville. They have been chasing for a week or so now. I’d imagine with this big weather push it’ll have them in overdrive. Don’t stay in a tent. It’ll be balls cold in the teens. Get a hotel in Marksville. Last weekend I heard they killed 15-20 deer in the Lake Ophelia lottery hunt.

I appreciate the report. I’ll be in yancey for the weekend. Still not sure if I’ll actually get Monday and Tuesday off with this weather coming. I have a heater for the tent and stayed in it in the 20’s and it wasn’t bad at all. I would get a hotel, but between Missouri in November and 2+ weeks in airbnbs around Louisiana, I’m deeper in room fees hunting public land than most guys are in lease fees, so it’s tent camping for the rest of the season for me

Give us an update baw. How was the tent in this weather? Hope you’re safe and got a big one!
