Baws stay safe out there in archery season. My son was hunting yesterday with his buddy, they have been chasing a great 10 point. Thought they could get him. Buddy dropped his phone in the ground blind. He got tagged by a baby copper on his finger reaching down to lick it up. They hunted for a few hours and never knew they were in the blind said they saw 2-3 in the corners of the blind, before heading to the ER. I always try to scan the blind. He’s back home on Benadryl and feeling fine. Lucky.

I don't mess with the rat snakes and king snakes beyond just scaring them away. But I kill copperheads. They are huge assholes.

Problem is that I don't see very well and these jerks are good at hiding.

Yeah they are so hard to see, blend in so well in pine straw and leaves. Surprised they never saw any movement. Said when they shined to light to see what happened, damn near broke the blind. All supports pulled out the ground. They went back to try and get them out, and they were gone. They will be back. Just wanted to try and remind all us baws to stay safe and be careful. Certainly still active out there.

I know a guy that got bit two weeks ago on the foot taking out his trash after dark. He had to get 8 rounds of antivenom and was still in pain a week later.

I have always heard a copperhead's bite reacts differently to one person than the next one. I damn sure do not want to find out on my end.

Before setting up my ground blinds i rake all the leaves away leaving bare ground. I still take my flashlight and look inside real good before getting into my blind. I also spray the ground and insides of blind with bifenthrin for spiders and chiggers upon setting them up.

Your son should have a stranger show up on trail cam in a day or two. That's just TigrrDad. He is harmless. Has no interest in their 10pt. Wants to briefly fondle the snakes a bit is all.

That’s a great idea, I usually do. He didn’t take it out. Will relay the message.

He’s a great kid too. Sucks, the early season is usually great here. First experience with a cooper.

TigrrDad is crazy about snakes. I couldn't imagine picking up a poisonous snake. Plenty coppers on the ground in Georgia, so many wooded areas.

Few years ago I was sitting in a ground blind for opening weekend of bow season. Heard something small rustling just outside and assumed it was either a squirrel or small bird. A few seconds later, a cottonmouth slithers in under the side of the blind. The blind got flung high enough in the air that I didn’t have to duck when making my hasty exit. I bought a new blind with a zip in floor the next day

Be sure he checks out the blind chair. Could be one in or on the chair. When leaving the blind, I always turn my chair towards the door. That way when I flashlight check the blind floor for snakes, I shine the chair as well when entering.

I didn't even know they made a zip in floor. I'll let him know Tiger Prawn. Great idea. I know his buddy that got hit is pretty shaken up. I doubt he goes back, but maybe something like this would help him. If not this season maybe next.

Yeah I always have, but this is a great idea to mention to him. Thanks, boudinman. I appreciate all these tidbits. I really want to keep the boys hunting. Something like this can change someone, and i'd hate for him to stop deer hunting.

He's going to inquire about the location as most jokingly do on this board, but it wont be for the deer! And he wont be joking!

Babies have just hatched. Headed out in all directions. Perfect camouflage. Small. They can sure ruin your day.

I’ve heard the babies have a yellow tail. Can’t see this one in the picture because of the phone. They said 3 were in the blind and they checked and never saw them before the hunt. I’m sure they were in there. Probably had momma around there as well. Talked to his buddy and barely has any bruising. Another lady came in the ER that night and had gotten hit in the ankle, and had completely swollen from there to her knee. He must have gotten extremely lucky. Thanks for all the advice, I’ve shared it with the boys.

It was probably a dry bite.

Not many options that come with the floor. Ameristep made the one I have. Its been a few years, but I think this is the same one

That looks like a solid option for them. Thanks again.
