My 2008 has about 125 hours on it. It’s the original kohler 25. It will crank on first try every time. But will only run at high rpm. It will die if I let it idle. I found out I have a compression issue. I was told one cylinder is “30% lower than the other”. I should have asked for numbers but I didn’t. So I assume one is normal and the other is off by 30%. I’m also told it could be the aftermarket carb. I’ve had an aftermarket carb on it for 5 years. It ran fine for years. A new oem carb is $600. So is this something I should chase down?I can do basic things like change the carb, oil, plugs but a compression issue is out my wheelhouse. I don’t want to spend a ton on an 08.

Thoughts?

Have you gotten it running and pulled each plug wire to see if it’s a certain cylinder that’s bad?

Valves lashed properly? Clean seats?

Checked your pilot jet?

I would start with those.

ETA: you can rent a compression tester for free from autozone and check it yourself.

It has a mikuni carb? If it ran fine for years I wouldn’t spend the money on an oem one. Can you rebuild the one you have?

No. A replacement from Napa but not oem.

Talked to boat Dr. They don’t think it’s a compression issue. Will be dropping it off.
