Heading down to Pointe Aux Chenes for the weekend. Plan to crab and set out floaters for gar. Anybody hearing any good reports? Also, anywhere I can get fresh shrimp that way?

Pic from a night run on floaters back in April

Went Sunday from 7-11 crabbing and it was very slow. Only 45 crabs and they were small. I caught 1 keeper to 1 throw backs. Now the ones indid keep were full of meat. As far as Gars, I seen a couple rolling. I also seen a friggen dolphin at the Launch on the Bourg/Larose HWY.

Remember you cant be on the reserve at night or leave out traps or bait.

I don't plan on going on the reserve for the crab traps, and I only have the drop nets anyway.

Appreciate the insight.

Went to a camp party on Toledo many yrs ago and an old timer fried up some gar balls and they were freaking incredible. I think it’s a bitch to get the meat because the fish has a shitload of bones in it, not sure tho.

I baited 6 cages behind my house and had 48 crabs in one night. They weren't big but were full to the brim.

Speaking of PAC, what’s going on with the fishing down there? Normally it was my go-to place for summer reds and specks in the bays but had about three terrible trips in a row. Everyone I’ve been speaking to has said the same, so not sure if something has changed? Still a great winter spot though.

Tide is low, ponds are full of grass. Reds were slow on Saturday.

When you clean it, chill then cut it into steaks and throw it on the pit too.

Yap. Slap a little mustard/hot sauce on it before you put it on the pit

We put a hurting on the crabs also on Saturday! Caught our limit within two hours and that was with very picky sorting.

Ahh. One of those guys I see…

Boiled 6 dozen Saturday night. Each family brought back approx 5 dozen each (4 total families) to freeze for gumbos this winter. You can stick that in your cock sucker.

Launched at PAC Marina

ETA: We rented that Baldone camp that is across from the marina. Nice place and we love going there. Always a good time.

We did exactly as you just stated, but we only picked up a few doing that. We docked at the first dam and threw out drop nets and lines on the opposite side.
