Crimping terminates the plant that it crimps, or at least that’s the point. Mowing doesn’t kill the plant.

I’ve planted very successful plots of wheat, clover and oats for 20 years without spraying. Clip plots in mid/late Sep, and I like to make one deep pass with disk about first week of Oct, then wait a week or so and bust up plots to seed bed condition and plant.

A side note….most important aspect of food plots is soil ph, so a soil test is paramount to making the forage nutritious and palatable to deer. You can add Ag lime after you clip or anytime before if truck can get in. Some COOP’s now have lime pull carts too.

bush hog, till it up, and seed and fertilize

This is what we do except the areas that stay underwater when the MS gets high. We have to spray the shite out of the cockleburs to knock them dead, then bush hog, disk, etc.

I've never sprayed a food plot in my life. Bush hog then disk. My dad doesn't even bush hog, just disks. Everything comes out fine. He probably spends the same amount of time, he just doesn't like to bush hog for some reason.
