Pecan Trees

Have some that are between 40 years old but don't really produce. I've heard something about drilling holes in the ground around the tree and dropping fertilizers and zinc etc.?
These trees are about 20 feet high. I heard that DDT was laid on this area years before and the PH levels maybe off. Wondering if anyone has recommendations?

Have soil tested then go from there.

Do they not make pecans at all, or do they make pecans that aren't any good? Any idea what variety the trees are?

What he said. Call your local ag agent and ask him for advice as well. My parents had a similar situation. Pecan trees never produced so dad cut them down.

How crowded are they? On a normal sunny day sun should be covering 50 per cent of ground around and between the trees. Otherwise they will be generally unhealthy. If not crowded then fertilize according to recommendations we have ours sprayed regularly

Test and fert accordingly. I have about 25 on my property. Some started putting on pecans as early as 10 years old.

Well that's not good
Do you happen to know what variety they are?

The trees could be "off site", meaning the soil is not compatible with pecan trees; and/or you have a lack of a good pollination source. Those are my guesses.
