It's pretty awesome to have wilderness right outside the door. Got a lot of outdoor stuff scheduled for the summer including rafting out of Aniakchack caldera. The ski lifts are 10 minutes away and I am teaching the kids to ski now. Great times.

Me and the three year old.

A couple of pictures from one of the Sacramento NWR units last fall. The number of geese and ducks was mind boggling; very cool place to visit.

Went fishing for spring kings this morning, no luck. Pixies aren't working, need herring. A couple of guys had some nice ones they caught on herring.

Cove where I went.

A few shots from the weekend, again more wildlife than scenery, but whatever.

Yellow Crowned Night Heron

Alligator Snapping Turtle. This was actually a pair that was mating. They were easily 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 feet long from head to tail.

Canon 7D and a Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS. Those shots are all very tight crops, since that lens just isn't long enough for wildlife, hence why they're grainy.

Those are great quality for a tight crop and really don't look grainy. You give me hope for the Canon 100-400mm that will be coming in early next week. I've been shooting with a 24x Panasonic but have been very disappointed with the quality despite the 840mm zoom. My older 12x Panasonic was a lot better before it died.

went hiking today, upper trail was closed due to avalanche danger and my wife and I were not up to the task of risking it with the kids... Got a nice shot of this guy though at the small boat harbor before leaving.

Here's some local outdoor videos taken very close to where I'll be living shortly.

A little kayaking on the river that runs by my new house. LINK

Skiing about 20 miles from the new place. LINK

Local mountain biking near the house. LINK

One of my favorite stretches of river to fish for native rainbow trout, about 40 miles from the house.

PDX, been in the Willamette Valley most my life. Just bought a retirement home near Oakridge. Hence the links. The link flyfishing on the McKenzie is truely the place to find me. I love that stretch of river, all natives, little fishing pressure. Just me, my 14 ft self-bailing raft, good looking woman (wife), good food and a day on the river. If it's a perfect day we'll spend six hours on the river and get off the river in time to make a night game at Autzen. :) Now that's a perfect day.

Where you located?

Been in the valley majority of my life as well. Live in Beaverton now. Love the McKenzie, used to live in Eugene and Springfield. Ever been to the headwaters of the McKenzie? Starts at Clear lake. Was there twice in the last two months.
Pics of waterfalls I have on page 11 is the McKenzie a half mile away from the start.

I haven't put all my pics in this thread, just some. If you search threads started by me here on the OB you can see some of my trips in the area.

Looks like one of those is Sahalie Falls on the McKenzie. Yea I know the area. I've rafted all of the McKenzie from Olalie to Eugene at one time or the other. I probably know the middle section of that river better than most guides. I've been rowing it for 30 years now.

I'm in my office just off Kruse Way in Lake O. You do take very nice pics. Just sold my townhouse in the West Hills (we're going through closing right now, cash buyer, it was on the market 7 days!!)

Sweet, I haven't done it all but I have been through most of it. Been rafting for about 20.

Thanks, I try although they were taken with my camera phone on my Droid X. I want a really nice one someday. I am a pic whore. My mom's fault. Went quick, sounds like you should have asked for a little more.

eta....Clear Lake, just adding a pic to stay on topic
