You always think that, but I think we just got lucky. I have a very specific niche target market. Once it's absolutely final I'll share details. Got a buyer who loved the place the same way we do.

around here in this market I'm sure you're right.

North Santiam, just south of Detroit Lake.

So did you go to LSU and move here? I guess I'm curious about the LSU connection for someone who clearly enjoys Oregon.

Not an alum, alum by choice. Moved here from LA when I was a kid. My moms side of the family is from NOLA. My parents had met a couple in the Navy from Oregon and visited on vacation. They decided it was going to be where they lived once out of the Navy. Didn't work out exactly like that but when I was 8 we moved to Albany and I have lived in the NW (mostly Oregon)ever since. I visit plenty (never in the summer )but the NW is home to me. I lived in Washington for several years whilst married to a nasty woman but would have no problem going back. I am very much an outdoorsman and the NW offers what I like to do. Been here 27 years.

eta....the one thing I'm very thankful for is the abundant selection of seafood available here. One thing the two states have very much in common.

eta2....btw, the Rose City Tigers alumni groups crawfish boil is this saturday at Tualatin community park. Tickets are 35$....bet you could get the party kicked into high gear showing up in Duck gear

Fire Lookout on Devil's peak near Hood.

Albany? I grew up there. AUHS class of 65. When I lived there we lived on 11th and Washington if you know where that is. Over near Central School. My mom is out at the Mennonite Village.

Couldn't agree more about the seafood. If you really want to get something started just tell them this Duck is pleased that people from Lousiana are able to come up here and get some REAL crawfish cooked the way it should be. LOL Seriously, I've always found it interesting that Oregon and Lousiana would have crawfish in common. Most people in Louisiana probably don't even know we have crawfish up here.

FYI: The water canal that runs through Albany had a lot of crawfish in it. Same with the coastal streams.

It would be fun to drop in wearing some Duck gear, but I'm down south at the new place this weekend. Plus, I'm sure I'd love the food.

As for that fire lookout. That brought back memories. I got laid in one of those back in the 70s. Went to visit a woman I knew who was working as a lookout. She'd been up there a couple weeks by herself and lets just say she was craving some male company!!!

The NW really is a bit of a special place for people who love the outdoors. Long as you can tolerate the winter rains it can be fantastic.

I know it, been a long time but I do. I lived in North Albany back when you couldn't see most of your neighbors. No longer that way. Went to West Albany til my freshman year then moved to Eugene with my dad.

Ouch....careful now! Actually, these will be LA crawfish. They are being flown in. The only thing being eaten from Oregon will be the oysters which are very good. Trust me, no one does crawfish like we do You're right, even people here don't always know it. I learned this years ago. I have two traps. Had a stream I used to dump them in on the way to work and would pick em up 13 hours later on the way home.

Lake Billy Chinook and Timothy Lake are ABSOLUTELY filled with them. I always want to camp there, especially LBC because of the warmer climate and it is my favorite area in the state. Would love to be in the Bend/Sisters/Prineville area one day. LBC is actually where the Oregonians get their crawfish for their festival in Tualatin.

Nice....this one is the only free one left you can use in the state and is on a first come first serve basis. My pic of Hood on page 7 is from the lookout. Will post a couple more. In the summer it's packed with people partying. Most of the old lookouts were destroyed, unfortunately. This place has a very special place in my heart. Unfortunately, a shorter easier trail was built which has made it busier in the summer. Can't get to that road in the winter so you HAVE to earn it in the winter which is when we go to avoid all the people. Used to be you HAD no choice but to earn getting there. 4.1 miles with 4k gain in elevation. Like climbing stairs for 4.1 miles.

Oregon is an outdoor mecca! IMO....cold rainy winter>hot and nasty humid summers. Our summers can't be beat imo. Man made planes so I can fly south in the winter time

Salmon River at the bottom of the valley. The Hunchback trail continues on down there.

I thought I would catch up on this thread on some of the places I've been in the last few weeks...

Bridal Veil Falls (hard to grasp how big it is in a picture)

Boat getting ready to go through Deception Pass

This would be from the boat's point of view

A cabin someone built on a local mountain here (too bad they clear cut around that area recently)

The outhouse for that same cabin

Second Beach in La Push

Hurricane Ridge

I have a free park pass and a free back country camping pass through August

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed when they clear cut that area, but they left all of the hiking trails there still.

I'm not sure. I would think so, but the National Forest might be separate from the National Park

Beats me. Worst case it would be $2 for each extra person.

Found some goldpanners on Gold Creek today while hiking.

Another of Gold Creek, in the basin.

Saturday, in the park....

Temps around 60, unbelievable blue sky. Maybe "green grass and high tides" would be more appropriate.
