Opinions on late 90's Century CC's?

Always been a freshwater guy but I think I'm going to add a bay boat. Would like something big enough for a few guys and kiddos
Found a really good deal on a 98 Century 2201
Not super familiar with the brand? Anyone have any insight on how the stack up to Kenner, Mako and Skeeters?

I had a Century 3200 cuddy. I think it was a 2002 model.
Funny story. Like, hah hah funny.
So there's a scupper hole on the deck at the back of each side of the transom. The design was such that it's like two stainless flanges that fit inside each other. One is attached to the outer hull. The other attached to the inner hull. And they fit inside each other.
The idea is that as the hull flexes they can move in and out without putting stress on the hull. And still allow water to flow off the deck overboard.
All good in theory.
Except for this detail: they flexed just enough to separate and hang up on each other. Such that when backing down on a rig, the water pours in the scupper holes and straight down into the bilge.
Which immediately shorted out the bilge pumps.
So I'm 60 miles offshore backing down on rigs fishing AJs. When I notice the boat acting funny. I open the hatch and notice that we're sinking.
which is exactly what we did. Fortunately no loss of life.
When I recovered and called Century and talked to an engineer he was "concerned". So he went out in the shop and ran some sort of test on the boats they were building. And called me back and said: Dang. You're right. We need to change that design. Thanks for the tip.

I had a Century 2201. I think it was a 2001. I absolutely loved it. We fished rigs, bayous, passes, beaches, bays. But it’s obviously not a skinny water boat. A very smooth ride in chop.

I still have a 98 22 ft Cenriey Center console. I was going to put it up for sale but it’s been a great boat and will just keep it for the time being for my kids to get around the River at home, and OBA the rest of the Summer. All I need it to do is get me 8-10 miles out and into some weed lines for trolling and to islands, pirates cove, sometimes the Bama and back to Cotton Bayou.
Best boat I’ve ever had as far as reliability. Saltwater series Yamaha 150. Never broke down and stranded me. I do JUST enough to keep it running maintenance wise. Very easy to work on.

I'm going back and forth on it. I'm not sure I can justify my use of it. I use a bass boat in the bays right now and it works pretty damn good.

That's affirmative. Although we were closer to shore when we did sink. But that's where the drama started.

One of the reasons I added a bilge pump, long hose and elec connection and threw in a hatch. Always worried about losing my bilge pumps.

Got the guy to 7500, 200 HP, EZLoad trailer easy pack hubs, all hubs in great shape and 3 of the 4 tires new. Other has about 60% tread,
It's not immaculate but it's fricking nice. All pumps and gauges work, I did a compression test and passed with flying colors. I wasn't even gonna buy the thing but it hopped up on plane so easy and that Yamaha 2 stroke 200 was just purring the whole time.
I think if I put an I pilot and a t-top on this thing I can sell it for 13/14 grand in Florida in the spring
I have zero impulse control with 3 things in this world. Guns, boats and pussy

Will be thirsty but that’s part of the deal, ditch the umbrella and make it a fishing boat.
Welcome to the break out another thousand club.

That’s wild. I’ve been fishing a thousand times and the idea of actually sinking hardly ever crossed my mind. Getting stuck in the mud or engine breaking, sure. But actual sinking in the gulf, that’s wild.

I mean, it’s not funny at all, I’m laughing at the fact that the engineer was so nonchalant about it. Like, what the hell, dude?

Not long after my buddy bought his CC, me, him, and his dad ran up on some mud at the mouth of the Pascagoula River. Me and my buddy pushed and the old man handled the throttle. Talk about a miserable experience.

Couple years ago I had clients in boat when it started taking on water. Dewatered and started looking for problem when I realized my garboard plug had come out. Both pumps weren’t keeping up and it took what seamed like hours to fashion another plug.
Would check all hoses and double clamp, change all rubber/plastic fittings, decarb motor and do some shake down trips.

Lots of agencies use or used them. I have known several folks that owned one and have fished out of several and they always seemed like good hulls to me. The fact that so many are used by state and federal agencies and biologists tells me they are probably pretty decent hulls...most of those hulls get used a bunch in all kinds of weather. May just be that they are low bidder on those types of hulls though....
