I considered the original SOCOM but went with the SOCOM II on aesthetics only. I haven't had the fortune to shoot either so far.

You have that backwards, brah! The SOCOM II has more utility, but the SOCOM is definitely a prettier lady.

I guess the SOCOM II looks a bit cooler, but that giant quad rail on the front adds about 4 pounds to the front of an already-heavy rifle. The SOCOM 16 OTOH doesn't have the large quad rail and still maintains the other awesome features of the M1A.

And not to get off track, but it's good to have you on board Tom. I had never seen you until that giant 1911 thread popped up but you've become a good OB contributor.

I should look into an NFA Trust.

I appreciate it.

I second this. And since we are on the topic. Did you see that Defense Dist finally got a fully working prototype up and running?

I think I saw their prototype lower run a 1000 round torture test or something? Maybe someone can find a link to confirm the actual number.

LINK

This is a link to the article I read this morning. The original article is hosted at Forbes if I recall and there are youtube vids of his AR lowers and mags. Once they got close they had to stop and apply for an FFL.
