This is the real issue
The BCM kit comes with a 3.88oz buffer the vltor has the 5.33oz. I think I would have had or wanted to go to the heavier buffer than the BCM so spending extra $.

You can buy the BCM RE alone, without the buffer/spring/etc.
See the link above...

Is that a 6 or 7 position?

For Vltor - the distinction (I think) is the A5 versus the RE-10 (which was intended for an AR-10/LR308). If you get a pure A5 RE, you get 7 positions, with the RE-10 you get 6. Not sure how that breaks down on the BCM version, but hope this helps.
We're definitely doing a Vltor on Mrs. Midnight's lower.

The BCM is actually 8 position, but is the same length as the A5 (7 position)
7 position Vltor RE & buffer/spring IN STOCK:

I have clips loaded yes. I use them to load my magazines when I'm at the range. I expect I could store them for a really long time.

Bought a DPMS Oracle, and I want to add a long m lok style hand guard. I know I have to add a low profile gas block. Will the hand guard come with everything else needed to change it out? New to the AR scene and want some advice and recommendations.

It is the number of cycles that wears the spring, not tension. Springs are designed to be under tension. If anything stretching them beyond their "sprung" dimensions is far worse for them than compressing them within their compressed specification.
I've never had a single problem with a fully loaded magazine, even after years and years.
