The only thing is the bolt isn't 158 steel.
Not something to get hung up about. Carpenter 158 is an outdated mold/die steel (ANSI P-6). About the only thing keeping it in production is stubbornness of a few companies and government contracts. AR-15 originally spec'd 9310 and 8620 was considered and highly tested too. At the time, 158 was more predictable in terms of heat treatment and easily sourced in quality and quantity within the US. Properly heat treated and finished bolts of 8620 will outlast your barrel several times over. I have both in my rifles now along with a few spares of each and have no reservations about them. I personally would love to see someone like Crucible test some of their PM steels and look into the sinter forging process for making these parts.

wasn't really hitting it very hard. The lips just spread and my punch went down through it. I may be ordering the Knipex pliers.
Wrong size punch. In the future if you get one stuck again, flip the receiver over and tap it out the other way instead of pulling on it with pliers.

I was using a 3/32 which as far as I'm tracking is the correct size for that pin? I was very frustrated last night and this morning I did just that to get it out pretty easy.

If you go back to page 522 of this thread we talk about that pin.
I use a 1/8 to drive it and 3/32 only to finish it once it is deep enough to where it can't split.

Damn Okay do dealers normally have these roll pins off hand or am I forced to buy it off the Internet? I tried Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace today and none of them have a 3/32 x 7/16 or 3/32 x 1/2.

I purchased this 300 blackout pistol yesterday at the gun show in Birmingham Al. I had no intention of purchasing another ar and did not even handle another one but when I walked by this guys table I was hooked as soon as I saw them and handled one. They are made by Steel City Arsenal in Pelham Al. I wish he had color pics on his website so you could see some of the finishes this guy has. This gun looks and feels incredible. I have built and owned several ar's ( before the boating accident where i lost them all) but i have never seen one that feels and looks as good as this one. I am gonna email this thread to the owner and maybe he will sign up and post more info about them.

Knipex makes great tools but if you dont want to pay the high price for Knipex tools just take some big needle and wrap some tape around the teeth. I used that cloth athletic bandage tape and it had a good combination of grip and toughness. Wrap tape several times around or the teeth will bite through the tape.

Tell me what you mean by direct link. I am using an ipad, i have imgur app. I hit blue button with arrow in upper right corner, it pops open a box to message, email etc and one of the options is copy link. Thats what i did and then pasted into img button here.

Will one of you familiar with the process to turn this into an SBR help me out. I have a trust and i believe i would need to use form 1. Do i need to have my trust name engraved on receiver? What about the serial number? Use the one on the receiver or engrave a new one?
Posted on 3/21/16 at 8:51 pm to Woodguy
Use the serial that's already on the gun. You will need to have your trust name, city and state engraved on the receiver.
