My dad started taking me on actual trips when I was 3-4. I had starting learning how to swim and had patience for a full day. I was allowed to take the skiff out at 14 by myself but I had to give my parents a float plan. Dad started letting me take the Sea Ray out at 16 (which honestly is pretty young now that I think about it)

I got a two year old and don't think he's old enough yet.
There are very good PFD's for young ones. Shade and morning time is best when it is cool. Don't plan on fishing much.

His first trip was around 16-18 months I believe. He will turn 10 in a few days and I let him do most of the driving these days. He had gotten pretty good.

18 months to 2 yrs. he just rode around. If fishing live bait split live wells with one for him to play w bait and one for you to fish with. He loved playing w the live bait and dipping the net and trying to catch them!

I had my little girl in the boat at 3 and my boy was 1.
She was in potty training, would not go off the side of the boat and we were not prepared for this.
I had to dump out the cochahoes in a net, let her go in the bucked and rinse it after. Some of the cochahoes died that day.
She is 22 now and still likes to fish.

Around a year or so old on the big boat (24' ft cabin cruiser) I can't remember when on the john boat. Probably not long after but not one on one.

Kind of rough where I go. I have a 10 mo old son now. I am thinking of selling my boat now and buy another around 7 years from now. My 3 yo daughter hates going.

For my Boy it was 6 months. We bought him a really good life jacket. It's kinda the norm for my family though, we're always in the boat for one reason or another.
Definitely get them a setup like below, fun for hours!!
