Have 3 dogs. Golden doodle, GSP, and a Yorkie.

The last day or so the GSP and Yorkie have had this awful "cough" like Hocking a loogie cough like they are trying to spit something up. Golden doodle is fine.

I was worried they possibly got into something but since it's 2 of them I'm not so sure. The more active they are the more they cough if course.

Yorkie is generally a lazy arse anyway but is being more lethargic, GSP hasn't missed a beat. It's happened before with the GSP and we just chalk it up to allergies. Both are still eating and drinking as well.

Any ideas? We did probably have covid last week so not sure whatever snake oil variant we are on now can be transmitted to dogs. Just not sure when to go to the vet.

if its a short of dry cough from deep within the chest then its a high probability.

its an infectious bacteria called bordatella. Can be picked it in more places than you think. they havent been exposed to any other dogs at all? if not then chances of this is lower.

Allergies can cause these symptoms and its that time of the year.

without full exam difficult to fully assess cause. Bordatella is easily treated but you will want them checked out for higher risk possibilities.

whatever it is you're dealing with, keep in mind its Wednesday before the 4th of July holiday. Many DVMs will be closed for the long weekend maybe even closing early Friday. So if things turn to shite because you decided to "wait and see" its going to be more expensive and more of a pain in the arse then usual to get assistance.

just mentioning that as someone who has witnessed a bunch of "its been going on for a few days, but got really bad tonight/today" calls during emergency hours. Take it FWIW.

We sent a video of one of them coughing to a vet friend of ours. He said kennel cough and is calling us some meds in.

Our ancient Chihuahua has a cough, a little hydrocodone shuts it down for a day.
