t's very common to see this under the picture: "Well, I know it's not a big one. But it's the biggest one I've ever killed. And the biggest one we've had on camera for 5 years here in the piney woods of S Mississippi."

It's amazing how many times I see this in hunting groups across Facebook. It's also demoralizing to see how many guys will post their first buck just to have 75 comments saying "if it was me i'd let him walk" or "maybe do better next time".

On top of that I'm starting to see people criticize how a hunter's deer mount came out. The other day someone posted a very nice 150-160" 10 point and it's obvious he was proud. Majority of the comments were telling him how bad he got screwed on the mount. Honestly, the mount wasn't that bad. Social media has helped the outdoors some but more times than not it hurts it.

I work my arse off to kill good deer but they are all on low fence properties I own, lease, or have access to.

I never understood chest thumpers that hunt at the zoo.

This drives me bat shite crazy. Comparison is the thief of joy. If that buck got you pumped up, be proud of it. Plenty people went home empty handed that day.

Another great benefit of Social Media.

Thankfully, we hunt in our own backyard and we allow other friends on the property as well. My daughter learned to hunt there and hopefully in the next few years, my grandchildren will as well. We have actively encouraged, supplied and allowed several under 18 hunters to take their first deer. It is awesome to see a 12-15 year old get pumped when they see a doe walk by and more so when they recover it. They are excited to have gotten anything and that is how it should be.
