Got this sweet little beauty back in January, and the best I can tell is she may be Dutch Shepherd in-part.

Loves pawing at things, but is extremely small for a shepherd (40 lbs and stands less than knee height to me... I’m 5’6”).

She is about a year and a half old. Very intelligent, and spastic as all hell with attention span issues. The one thing I can’t get her to stop doing is licking you during any and every interaction.

It looks like a young Belgian Malinois, but I’m not certain.

See, I thought that as well, but I haven’t seen one the is as short/stocky as her. She is a bit more built, when usually malinois’ have a longer/leaner body.

Also, she has a medium to long coat length... I haven’t seen Malinois’ with anything other than short coats.

Source: Working closely with the MWDs on base out here... which of course doesn’t make me a dog expert at all. Just basing that off of the MWDs I have seen.

That height/build and the gray/blue undercoat looks like could have Blue Heeler cattle dog mixed in

The attention span issues make sense if that is the case. Very pretty dig op.

There should be a general dog thread on the OB. I love looking at dogs at work lol.

I would also say cattle dog and Malinois mix, but with mixes it could be several things

When trying to discern what the breed composition of shelter dog is, it's probably better to go with the simplest and most likely breeds.

Is it more likely that she would be a composition of an uncommon shepherd or more likely that she's just a mix of a bunch of street mutts with German shepherd mixed in?

I picked up a mutt of the street that had the coat and markings of a Gordon Setter. He was not a Gordon Setter, but just a typical street mutt.

German Shepard and Blue Heeler mix is my guess. I have a heeler mix and he's super spastic as well around other people and dogs. Definitely a pretty and cool looking dog you got there!

Funny you say Hyena... When she gets excited she runs with her tail tucked and her back arched, and it looks EXACTLY like a Hyena's run.

Thanks for all the comments btw folks. How do the DNA kits for dogs work and what is the accuracy/reliability of the results?
